The Importance of Emergency Lights

Emergency lights are essential for any building, especially those with high foot traffic. Exit Sign Warehouse works to ensure that your commercial building has the latest emergency lighting options.

Hotels, restaurants, churches and schools all need exit lighting and emergency lights that are reliable and meet safety standards and regulations.

Older buildings that don't have a lot of foot traffic should also have emergency lighting so that people can easily evacuate damaged or unsafe buildings.

What is the difference between emergency lighting and exit lighting?

Emergency lighting is battery-operated lights that activate when a building loses power. All new buildings are required to have emergency lighting to meet standards set by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

Exit lights show people where to leave the building and should be on both day and night. It is important that people entering the building can easily see the exit signs no matter where they are.

When installing emergency lights and exit lighting, be sure to check with your local authorities for building codes and standards.

Exit Signs Warehouse Emergency Lights

We have a wide range of emergency lighting products available for purchase that are UL listed. This means they are certified for customer safety.

Our lights are all code compliant, black or white in colour and have a 90 minute battery back-up time. They can be mounted in recessed or surface areas.

Light Emitting Diode (LED) Lighting

Also known as solid state lighting, these lamps use wedge base lamps or PAR series systems. Because the light is less harsh, they are quickly becoming more popular than incandescent lights, especially in office buildings and nursing homes.

Unlike incandescents, LED lights are not hot to the touch and use solid objects such as semiconductors. They use 6 to 12 volts and consume much less power than other alternative energy sources.

Batteries for Emergency Lighting

Emergency lighting requires the use of lead-acid or nickel-cadmium batteries. These particular lead-acid batteries are rechargeable and more economical than other modern rechargeable batteries.

The lead-acid battery used to power emergency lighting is called a VLRA or Valve-Lead-Regulated Battery. It is a maintenance-free battery that is integrated into an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system.

Wet-cell nickel-cadmium rechargeable batteries (NiCad) can also be used for emergency lighting. They require no maintenance and use a special low voltage release valve. Another significant benefit is the greater energy density produced.

Our modern emergency lighting options

At Exit Sign Warehouse, we stock only the highest quality emergency lighting and accessories, including Class 1 Class 2 and hazard lights.

We also stock a range of industrial and high wattage products that are New York approved and made in the USA. Many of these products have remote capabilities and are suitable for wet locations.

Our combination exit and emergency lights come with red or green LEDs and non-glare heads that are fully adjustable and have a life expectancy of over 10 years.

Combination exit and emergency lights are UL 924 compliant and meet the National Electrical Code (NEC).

Whether you own a hotel, restaurant or other commercial building, Exit Sign Warehouse has the emergency lighting you need. Our knowledgeable staff will help you choose the options that best fit your needs.
